The veteran team of the Republic of Moldova was founded in 1995. Our motto is:” Bring life to your years!” The nucleus of this team are the players of “Politehnic” Chisinau, which in 1970-1980 participated in the basketball championship from the Soviet Union. They are the masters in sport: G. Mozgovoi, N. Suhorukov, V. Caraion, A. Snatin, V. Ocunschi, V. Plitoc, A. Sestopal, A. Pozdneacov, V. Savciuc, O. Rosco, B. Crasnocioc, E. Safronov, V. Jedik and others. Many years, this team was trained by the patriarch of the Moldavian basketball, also a great coach from Moldova-Matvei Lipov, which taught in these players the love for this sport for many years. He was not only a coach, but also a great mentor for the players. With the same passion, the work was continued by another very good trainer in Moldova-Valerii Ciornii.
The president of the “Veteran-Moldova” and also the representant of FIMBA in Moldova is Valeriu Plitoc.
The club “Veteran-Moldova”, in a short time, achieved great success in the international basketball arena, becoming world champions twice: in 2005 in New Zeeland and in 2007 in Puerto Rico. In 2006, in Germany this team became vice-champions of Europe.
The basis of this basketball team’s success is the hard work and the ambition of the players, beside their family and work. “Veteran-Moldova” permanently participates in the international contests of veterans in: Kiev, Jitomir, Haricov, Odessa, and Chisinau which take place in the memory of the local personalities in basketball.
The team of the Moldavian club of basketball traines near children, this way making basketball more popular among the new generation.
For the future, the club “Veteran-Moldova” wants to make more popular the ideas of FIMBA in Moldova, and wants to gain more adepts of them.
