CROATIAN MAXIBASKEBALL MALE

Organization of most maxi basketball clubs in Republic of Croatia have been improved over the last years so most of them are organized as official organizations and have become full members of their city or district basketball associations.
First of all, we would like to introduce to you the tradition of maxi basketball competitions in Croatia. Open tournament of maxi basketball "Old stars Zagreb" have been taking part for 19 years without interruptions ever since 1989, Zagreb maxi basketball league "Vladimir Bačić" was first organized in 1994 and took part till 2001, and in 2003 the Croatian maxi basketball league was organized.
Furthermore, many Croatian veteran clubs took part in the Alpe Adria League (the representation of Croatian clubs is about 30-35%), which gathers together 16 clubs from 7 countries. As of 2001 our clubs started participating in World and European championships in maxi basketball in FIMBA organization.
The most active and famous maxi basketball clubs that gather many players are: ZAGREB MBC from Zagreb, ZADAR MBC from Zadar, BROD OLD STARS from SLAVONSKI BROD, MAX BEARS from Zagreb (MAKSIMIR), SISAK MBC from Sisak, KVARNER MBC from Rijeka (TRSAT), ISTRA MBC from PULA.
We would like to mention some of the famous basketball players who participated in the championships over the last years, such as Zoran Čutura, Danko Cvjetićanin, Vladan Alanović, Josip Gierga, Petar Popović, Andro Knego, Čedomir Perinčić, Jadran Popović, Ivan Sunara, Ivica Obad, Ante Matulović, Boris Grgurev, Zoran Oštrić, Aramis Naglić, Igor Lukačić etc.

MAXIBASKETBALL LEAGUE "VLADIMIR BAČIĆ"
The championship was organized by Basketball association of Zagreb and got its name in honour of a famous sport journalist. Games were played in accordance with the FIBA rules with the duration 2 x 15 minutes. All players of 35 and older, that are registered as active players have the right to participate.
In the period from 1994 to 2001 12 teams from Zagreb and 1 team from Sisak competed with one point system.



OPEN MAXI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT "OLD STARS ZAGREB"
Tournament was founded in 1989 in Zagreb and since then it took place 19 times. Games are played according to the FIBA rules with duration 4 x 8 minutes (semi-finals and finals 4 x 10 minutes). Players who are 35 and older, which are not registered as active players have the right of participation. About 30 teams which are divided into groups take part and each team plays at least four games. Competition is taking place on the last week in May from Thursday till Sunday.
During 19 years foreign teams were represented as well: Koper, Metlika, Olimpia (SLO), Prague (CZE), Tirana (ALB), Geneve (CHE), Vienna, Graz (AUT), Udine (ITA), Belgrad (SRB), Banja Luka (BIH), Munich (GER), Barcelona (ESP), Pecs (HUN), and Reykjavik (ISL).

CROATIAN MAXIBASKETBALL LEAGUE
League was founded by 6 clubs at the initiative of Zagreb MBC in 2003. Right of participation have players who are older than 35. Championship is organized with double point system with participation of 8 to 10 teams. Games are played according to the FIBA rules with duration 4 x 10 minutes, and umpired by referees of the highest rank. Competition Commission, which includes three members, assures fulfilments of basketball rules conditions and Propositions of league.

MAXIBASKETBALL LEAGUE "ALPE-ADRIA OVER 35"
Championship was founded in 1995 in the organization of Sport organization “KOŠ” (“basket”) from Kopar, and till now it has taken place for 9 (nine) times. Games are played according to the FIBA rules, with duration 4 x 10 minutes. Players who are 35 or older have right to participate. In the beginning there were 8 teams from 3 countries and in the last season 16 teams from 7 countries played and they were divided into four groups (Croatian representation made up for 30-35%).

CROATIAN MAXIBASKETBALL TEAMS WHICH WERE REPRESENTED IN LEAGUE”ALPE-ADRIA” are: ZAGREB, ZAGREB (5 seasons), KVARNER, RIJEKA (12 seasons), ZADAR, ZADAR (3 seasons), MAX BEARS, ZAGREB (5 seasons), ISTRAGRAĐEVNO, PULA (10 seasons), ZLATNI OTOK, KRK(3 seasons), BROD OLD STARS, SL. BROD (1 season), FAŽANA 79, FAŽANA (5 seasons), RADIO MAESTRAL, PULA (5 seasons), OPATIA, OPATIJA (1 season), POREČ, POREČ (2 seasons), BJELOVAR, BJELOVAR (1 season).

MAXIBASKETBALL CLUB ZAGREB
Club was founded in 1994, started to play in season of 1995/1996. It was founded as a official organization and became full member of Basketball Association of Zagreb in 2003.
The club played in over 200 matches (about 90 international) on many tournaments, championships and leagues. The club played in more than 50 cities all over Europe, South America and Australia.
Many activities in the Croatian Maxi basketball were undertaken by Zagreb MBC ever since the official registration of the club (as the civic association), submission of the request for he membership in the Zagreb Basketball Association, playing in the Alpe-Adria League, playing at the World Championship in Ljubljana, setting the web site of http://www.vkk-zagreb.hr/, organization of Croatian Maxi basketball League which was a great example to other Croatian maxi basketball clubs.
Today also Zagreb Maxi basketball Club is working on the integration and coordination of the maxi basketball in Croatia.

CROATIAN MAXIBASKET FEMALE

Participation of the female maxi basketball players of Split and from Montmontaža BC in the "Old Stars Zagreb" tournament between 1990 and 1996 marked the beginning of the female maxi basketball in Croatia. As of 1997 the memorial tournament has been held in honour of the great Croatian basketball player from Zagreb Ms Ružica Meglaj-Rimac wherein the maxi basketball players from Zagreb FMBC, Split FMBC and Rijeka BC play. All stated female clubs were registered as civic associations with the goal of promoting the female maxi basketball in Croatia and the healthy lifestyle.
The said clubs got in touch with the female maxi basketball players from Slovenia and shared their experiences in the sports halls of Rijeka, Split, Koper, Ljubljana, Litija and Zagreb. In 1997 the players of Split FMBC and Zagreb FMBC played at the International Tournament in Ljubljana for the first time. Since that moment till 2000 the female maxi basketball clubs of Split, Rijeka and Zagreb participated in the tournaments in Rijeka, Split, Koper, Ljubljana and at all international tournaments held in honour of Ružica Meglaj-Rimac (from 1997 to 2007). From 2001 the said clubs from Croatia started to play in World and European maxi basketball championships in the organization of FIMBA. of maxi basketball clubs.
