The history of Maxi-basketball in the Czech Republic is only short:

The start impulse to take part in Maxi-basketball tournaments under the patronage of FIMBA arouse within the team of CBC Praha in 2001, when a group of 40 former players from the military team of Ceské Budejovice met after a long time. The gathering after 15 years was such a strong and pleasant experience, that the players decided to further utilize their potential not to waste it. In 2002 the CBC team applied to the Adriatic league of veterans, where they experienced many wonderful moments of victory and unforgettable collective journeys to individual games. At that time the players learned about FIMBA and their team of men aged +35 enrolled for the World Championship in Orlando in 2003. The championship brought them to the decision to become much more involved in FIMBA tournaments, and the World Championship 2005 in Christchurch (New Zeeland) welcome a women´s team as well. These women won the championship in the category +45.For the next European Championship 2008 in Pesaro there are already registered teams in categories women +35 and +45 and men teams +45 and +55.The success of the team of women was the last straw when making the decision whether to take more significant part in FIMBA activities or not, and thus, under the influence of the experience from New Zeeland´s World championship, the candidacy of Praha for organization of the World Championship 2009 was announced. Further participation of our teams in the European Championship 2006 in Hamburg and the World Championship 2007 in Puerto Rico only vindicated the decision and all of us relish that we will have the opportunity to show our wonderful capital to the teams from all over the world and that in 2009 we all will enjoy a long and gorgeous festival of sports and entertainment under the patronage of MAXI-BASKETBALL.
