Even since three decades back in Dominican Republic we played “old or veteran” basket, it was in 2005 when the real concept of Maxibasketball starts in our country. It was generated by the first event Dominican-Boricua, coordinated by the actual FIMBA Representatives of Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, Jose -Cheo- Otero and Miguel Suarez.
From that moment on we have been participating in all and each event organized by our Federation in the American continent; including the hosting of the 2nd FIMBA Central-Caribbean Championship in 2006 in Santo Domingo.
It has been very satisfactory for me to gather on-court the best Dominican players of all the history, like: Vinicio Muñoz, Frank Prats, Evaristo Perez and Manolo Prince, among other great players of the quisqueyano basketball. In the same way, to brought to so important event as the World Championship in Puerto Rico, one of the best female Maxibasketball Dominican players of the world: Teresa Duran.
The change from veterans to maxibasketball is today accepted by almost all the basketball players in the category. In each Maxibasketball event the press is present and the people recognize us on the streets because the great performance we got in each competition we go.
On the other hand it is great the existence of an institution that is worried to gather the best of the best creating a world focus. It is a challenge to fulfill in each competition. Beyond the enlargement of our hungry for the game and over our personal player skills, definitely, it give us the opportunity to get back to the competition and to know and change hugs and stories with other player of the world.
I think that our teams are really nice representatives of our colors flag and I recognize at this point many people who have been working to reach the place we have in Maxibasketball today.
Frank Prats who open the doors, Leo Lopez and Jorge Suncar because their interest and dedication, Diomedes Giron for his willing and to Guadalupe Ruiz for her efforts, to Magdiel Abreu for his fidelity and to who is impossible to forget, Jose Cheo Otero for his support and help in each situation and in every critic time we have past. And finally to Ruben Rodriguez Lamas, Nelson Silva and Carlos del Viso for the all time trust giving to me the opportunity to be Representative for the next period and to let the basket world dance at the MAXI rhythm.
